All gallery jobs vary according to the size of the gallery. Some small galleries have only 2 or 3 members of staff who each cover a wide range of jobs. Large galleries will employ people in all of the positions below – and sometimes have more than one post in each area. The level of responsibility for each job will also vary according to the size of the organisation. When applying for a job, the job description and information provided by the gallery should provide you with this information.

For the sake of simplicity, this section of the engage site focuses on galleries and gallery education, however this information also relates to work in art museums and arts centres with an active role in working with the public.
